Background of the Study
Staff retention is a critical issue in the hospitality industry, particularly in regions like Kano State, where the sector is highly competitive and labor turnover rates can be high. The hospitality industry is known for its reliance on human capital, as the quality of service provided is heavily dependent on the skills and dedication of its staff. In Kano State, the hospitality sector has seen significant growth in recent years, driven by an increase in both domestic tourism and business travel. However, the sector continues to face challenges related to retaining skilled and experienced staff, which impacts the overall service quality and operational efficiency of hotels and resorts.
Staff turnover in the hospitality industry can be costly, as it leads to increased recruitment, training, and operational disruptions. Motivating employees, providing career development opportunities, and creating a positive work environment are key factors in reducing turnover. This study will examine the staff retention challenges faced by the hospitality sector in Kano State and propose strategies for improving retention rates and ensuring long-term business success.
Statement of the Problem
In Kano State’s hospitality industry, high staff turnover has been identified as a significant challenge, leading to increased operational costs and diminished service quality. Despite the potential for growth in the sector, the lack of effective staff retention strategies remains a barrier to sustainable success. This study aims to investigate the underlying causes of staff turnover in Kano’s hospitality sector and to explore strategies for improving staff retention.
